My parents sent my sister and me to a Gurukul for girls in Dehradun for Schooling and later as more grown up students to Mahadevi Kanya Pathshala. We were enthusiastic about our school as it was a fun filled place where everyday our Guruji taught us something new. At Gurukul we could run around care free after our lessons and never have to carry huge satchels. The whole process of ‘Gurukul Shiksha Padhyati’ was enjoyable and after marriage my husband Ch. Puran Singh who was also a Gurukul Kangdi Sanatak came to be of the opinion that we must do something for the children of the future and thus was born a dream to open up a school which could be a fun place for children to be and learn in. And that is how a school called ‘The Blue Bird’ came to be at our residence in Lytton Road – Dehradun.
By God’s grace and able administration the school soon became a focal point for all our family children which included my eldest daughter Kalpana and all her cousins but also soon it grew too big to be housed in a residential bungalow and had to be shifted to a nearby locality.
I am glad today my youngest son Sandeep an alumnus of the Doon School has taken the mantle on himself to carry on the good work and fulfill his father’s dream of bringing quality education to children who deserve it the most and after nearly 2 decades to see the School grow into one of the leading School in Dehradun makes me feel proud. I have full faith in the portals of the Academy that the leaders of tomorrow who will be nurtured to go into the world upright and confident as ambassadors of goodwill. In this school, parents and children will work together towards a common goal of their children’s success.
With best wishes
